The P0245 code means the PCM has detected that the electrical circuit for the wastegate solenoid is reading below its expected voltage range — a 'circuit low' condition. This is an electrical fault code rather than a mechanical one, pointing to a wiring, connector, or solenoid problem rather than a physical issue with the wastegate itself.
The most likely cause is a short circuit in the wiring that runs from the PCM to the wastegate solenoid, or an internally shorted solenoid coil. Because the wastegate solenoid is located near the turbocharger where temperatures are extreme, wiring insulation can degrade faster than in other areas of the engine bay. Corroded connectors due to heat cycling and moisture are also common.
Without proper wastegate solenoid control, the turbo cannot regulate boost pressure. Most vehicles will default to a safe mode, either keeping the wastegate fully open (resulting in low or no boost) or entering limp mode. While the vehicle is typically still drivable at reduced power, you should have the wiring and solenoid inspected soon to restore proper turbo function and prevent potential engine damage from uncontrolled boost.
Severity
Symptoms
- •Check Engine Light is on
- •Loss of turbo boost and reduced engine power
- •Engine enters limp mode under acceleration
- •Poor fuel economy
- •Turbo may not spool up at all
Likely Causes
A short to ground in the wiring between the PCM and the wastegate solenoid pulls the circuit voltage below normal operating range. Heat damage, chafed insulation, or moisture intrusion near the turbo are common causes.
The solenoid coil can develop internal short circuits that reduce its resistance below specification, causing the PCM to detect a low circuit condition.
Corrosion, bent pins, or moisture in the solenoid connector can create low-resistance paths to ground, pulling circuit voltage down and triggering the low-circuit code.
The PCM's internal transistor driver for the wastegate solenoid may be damaged or leaking current, causing the circuit to read abnormally low even with a functioning solenoid.
